SHELBYVILLE, IL. — How can I have a relationship with God?

First you need to understand that God wants to have a relationship with you.  God is a perfect God, and he is incapable of being in a relationship with us because of our sin. That being said, he knew that we as humans were going to sin, and in Genesis 3:15 right after Adam and Eve committed the first sin, he gave us a prophecy for a Savior to save us from our sins. He knew that Christ was going to be our way to have a relationship with him, and it was all planned before the creation of the world.

For you to have a relationship with God you need to believe the following, what is called the ABC’S of the faith. A stands for admitting you are a sinner. No one, except for Christ, has lived a sinless life, or even close to that (Rom 3:23). And the first step in coming to have a relationship with God is to admit that you need Christ in order to complete that relationship, and that your sin separates you from God.

The B stands for believe. You must believe in what the bible says about God and Christ. You must believe that he was born of a virgin (Matt 1:18-21), led a sinless life (Heb 4:15), performed miracles to show God’s power and that he was God, died on the cross for the sins of the world in order that we may have a relationship with God (1 Pet 3:18), and that Christ resurrected from the grave to spend eternity in heaven (1 Cor 15:3-4).

The C stands for confess. Confessing your new found belief to others is so important. Others need to hear this new belief you have so they can help you along in your faith and encourage you in your relationship with God (Rom 10:9-13). Confessing your belief in him is not just about a one time confession, but about confessing day in and day out with your words and your actions (Luke 14:27).

This is basic, but it the foundation of the Gospel. God is love and wants you to have a relationship with him. If you have any questions, use the contact information below so I can help you see how much God loves you.
