SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
A Chicago Cubs themed room welcomed Shelbyville Manor resident Ruth Knudson Friday afternoon.
A Harry Caray impersonator, memorabilia, and a poster proclaiming Knudson as the Cubs’ Number 1 fan filled the Bounce Back room of the facility.
“Ruth has been recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. We wanted to have a special day just for her,” said Bounce Back therapist Jim Watton. “Every day with her is a blessing.”
Well-wishers from throughout the community greeted her. WAND sportscaster Matt Loveless presented her with a letter from the Cubs franchise thanking her for her loyalty to the team. Knudson threw out the “first ball” to catcher Chad Brachbill and sang along to “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”
Knudson, 87, served as secretary for the sheriff’s office from 1974 to 2002.
“She is the biggest Cub fan. She also is a big fan of her family,” said granddaughter Kari Kingston.
