On Sunday, August 12, 2018, the Daniel and Ayers Buzzard Reunion was held at the Greenland Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. A sumptuous potluck dinner was enjoyed by all in attendance. The dessert table is always the best with several pies from Niemergs in Effingham, Illinois and wonderful desserts made by family members. Shirley Gregg Hall, great-granddaughter of John Smith Buzzard, welcomed all at the door and assisted with sign in of all guests. An overhead projector displayed pictures of the previous reunion and several family photos on the front wall behind the podium. The tables were beautifully decorated with blue and white table cloths and center pieces of flowers from family gardens.
Jim Buzzard, great-grandson of Silas Buzzard stepped to the podium and opened the reunion and welcomed everyone. He led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. He introduced the Master of Ceremonies, Dallas Buzzard, great-grandson of Silas Buzzard. Dallas said the blessing over the meal and oversaw orderly lineup for the food.
After all had enjoyed the food, Cheryl Miller Reed, great-granddaughter of John Smith Buzzard, Letha Frailey and Mary Frailey Koberlein, great-great-granddaughters of William Buzzard entertained with a song, "Time Has Made a Change In Me". Cheryl Miller Reed accompanied the group in singing "America".
Michael Bell, great-great-grandson of John Smith Buzzard gave a reading called "Free in the USA". He asked that all veterans and active military be recognized. Several veterans stood and gave dates of service and branch. Wars represented: World War II, Korean, Vietnam and the Cold War. Now serving in the U.S. Army, Justin Bell, was recognized.
Sam Buzzard, grandson of Harmon Buzzard, gave a presentation on the Land Acquisitions of Daniel Buzzard. At the time of his death he owned over 644 acres, having bought and sold many more acres in his lifetime. All of his land is still farmed and descendants still reside there.
The family has made the decision to update the family history prepared and researched many years ago by Gail Buzzard Long, daughter of Julian Buzzard. Carol Buzzard Bell, great-granddaughter of John Smith Buzzard, is in charge of this project. She handed out packets to representatives of each branch of the family for their recording of their family members with return to Carol for assembling and typing information. This will be an ongoing project for sometime.
Dallas Buzzard and Carol Buzzard Bell presented the award for the Oldest Descendant Present to Don Hildebrand, age 92, the Youngest Descendant Present to Luke Koberlein, age 9 months, and the Descendant Traveling the Farthest to Douglas Sparks, Pueblo, Colorado. Douglas is a new attendee of the reunion and is a great photographer. He took many photographs, the best being photos taken with Daniel and Mary Frazier Buzzard's dining room chair. Many couples, families, and brother and sisters were photographed with the chair.
The family had taken donations at the last reunion for cleaning and refurbishing the grave stone of Daniel and Mary Frazier Buzzard at Bob Doane Cemetery. Dallas Buzzard spearheaded the project and gave a presentation about the work and had pictures on display of the finished stone. All are very happy with the end result. He also said there was some monies left and that would be given to Dion Buzzard, great-great-grandson of Silas Buzzard, the sexton of Bob Doane Cemetery.
