The Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation made fourteen scholarship presentations during the 2013 Membership Appreciation Picnic held August 6. These individuals are current college students and were awarded scholarships through the Farm Bureau Foundation for the 2013-2014 school years.
Katlyn Pieper and Zachary Rincker were each awarded $1,000 Chris Barker Memorial Scholarships. Katlyn, the daughter of Steven & Jean Pieper of Stewardson, is attending Illinois State University pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agribusiness & Animal Industry Management. Zachary is the son of Doug & Marla Rincker, Strasburg. He is a sophomore at Lake Land College and is enrolled in the agriculture transfer program.
The Howard Buffett Foundation awarded five $2,000 scholarships to Shelby County students this spring through the Farm Bureau Foundation. Those winners were Luke Rincker, Karli Robinson, Alexandria Russell, Kelli Thompson and Taylor Williamson.
Rincker is the son of Otto & Lisa Rincker of Strasburg. He is currently attending the University of Illinois and pursuing a degree in Agriculture Accounting. Karli Robinson, daughter of William & Ronda Robinson of Shelbyville is attending the University of Illinois. Robinson is an Animal Science major for pre-veterinary medicine. Alexandria Russell, the daughter of Jim Russell of Herrick, is a sophomore at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She is pursuing a degree in Agribusiness Economics. Kelli Thompson is a senior in Agricultural Systems – Ag Education at Southern Illinois University. Thompson is the daughter of Ed & Becki Thompson of Cowden. Taylor Williamson is attending Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and studying Plant and Soil Science. Taylor is the daughter of Barry & Beth Williamson of Windsor.
Seven $1,000 Shelby County Farm Bureau general scholarships were presented to the following recipients: Kaylee Agney, Jonathon Eloe, Lucas Furr, Wesley Jackson, Adam Kessler, Sarah Plants and Jessica Telgmann.
Kaylee Agney, daughter of Tracy Agney, Shelbyville is attending Southern Illinois University – Carbondale pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Crop, Soil & Environmental Management. Jonathon Eloe, son of Dan & Barb Eloe, Shelbyville is attending Lake Land College pursuing a degree in Horticulture. Lucas Furr, son of Terry and Pam Furr, Shelbyville is attending Lake Land College in the agriculture transfer program. Wesley Jackson, son of Raymond & Elizabeth Jackson, Macon is attending the University of Illinois pursuing an Agribusiness, Markets and Management degree. Adam Kessler, son of Tim & Pat Kessler, Mode is studying Agribusiness at Lake Land College. Sarah Plants, daughter of Kenneth and Annette Plants, Pana is a pre-veterinary student at Millikin University. Jessica Telgmann, daughter of Don & Kim Telgmann, Strasburg is pursuing an Agriculture Communications degree at Kaskaskia College.
Since 2009, the Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation has awarded $81,250 in scholarships. The recipients were selected for the scholarships based on their academic accomplishments, activities in school and community, self analysis and recommendation letters.
