4-H Federation features member Jason Becker

Shelby County 4-H Week is March 15-21. Shelby County 4-H Federation is the group of members that plans activities for all of Shelby County 4-H including: organizing 4-H week activities, craft day events and the county-wide barbecue which is held in June. Each club is asked to send representatives to be on the Federation team. So for the month of March, Shelby County 4-H Federation would like to recognize their members and let the public know why they like being on Federation so that everyone has a better understanding of the 4-H program.

Here is this week’s member:

My name is Jason Becker and I am an 11 year member of the Strasburg Tailtwisters and this is my 4th in Federation. I joined Federation because when I was younger, I remember my brother being a part of Federation. I always liked to follow in his footsteps, so I wanted to be a part of it too. I was informed that they were looking for people and jumped at the opportunity!

Federation has been a huge part of my life the past three years. I have enjoyed everything about it. The part that I would call my favorite is all the people I have met and became friends with. I have seen a few 4-H’ers come and go, but they are always fun to get to know (unintentional rhyme). I still keep in touch with some of them and at the same time sincerely miss them. It has been an amazing experience that opens you up to activities and possibilities I never thought possible.

Federation is a huge time commitment, but do not let that scare you. It is a lot of fun and we try our best to work around everyone’s schedule. If you have the slightest desire to join, do it. You will find out that it is a lot of fun and will love it; I guarantee that. The main thing that Federation did for me is that it made me absolutely love 4-H. I can now see the difference that it makes and I doubt I would have enjoyed 4-H as much if I had not been a part of Federation. Join it and you will not be sorry.
