Three CAM members recommended for State FFA Degree

On Friday, February 7, 2014, Lisa Parker, Shelby Sloan, and Megan Zindel traveled to the National Sequestration Building in Decatur to interview for their State FFA Degree. To receive this degree, the member must have earned or productively invested $1,500 or worked 750 hours on their Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAE). They must have record books for ever year of FFA membership (at least 3 years), have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and performed at least 25 community service hours. After filling out a long application, the candidates are interviewed by a panel of judges. All three individuals were selected by the judges as recipients of this degree. This is a very impressive achievement, because Illinois gives out very few each year.

Lisa Parker is the daughter of Gary and Susan Parker of Moweaqua, IL and is currently a junior at Central A&M High School. Lisa’s SAE’s are in the areas of Equine Entrepreneurship and Veterinary Science Placement. Lisa’s Equine book is on her two horses that she raises and shows at local fairs. Her Veterinary Science book is on her job at Fairview Hospital for Animals in Decatur where she is a kennel attendant. Lisa is currently serving as the Central A&M FFA President. She has participated in Soil Judging, Agronomy Judging, Parliamentary Procedure, Livestock Judging, Proficiency Judging, Public Speaking, Horse Judging, Dairy Foods, Job Interview, and has planned and helped with numerous community service activities. She is a very active FFA member and is a great leader for members to look up to. After graduating high school, Lisa plans to attend Lake Land College and then transfer to a university and major in Agriculture Education.

Shelby Sloan is the daughter of Jeff and Lisa Sloan of Assumption, IL. She is a senior at Central A&M High School. Shelby’s SAE’s are in Swine Production Entrepreneurship and Ag Service Entrepreneurship. Shelby’s Swine Production Entrepreneurship book is kept on her crossbred show hogs that she raises and shows at the 4-H fair. Her Ag Service book is on the vehicle detailing business she started during the summer of 2012. With this business, Shelby takes on the hard work of cleaning vehicles inside and out for her customers. Shelby was also named the Section 16 Star in Ag Business with her Ag Service record book! Shelby is currently serving as the Central A&M FFA Vice-President and Chair of the Community Develop Committee. She is a very active member of the Central A&M FFA Chapter and has participated in Soil Judging, Food Science CDE, and Proficiency Judging, as well as helped with a tremendous amount of other FFA and community service activities. Shelby plans on attending Lake Land College for two years and complete her studies in their Physical Therapy Assistant Program.
