---- — Garrett Ferguson, Monica Griesemer, Jessie Denning, and Hannah Apple were chosen to represent Shelbyville High School in the ILMEA District 5 Jazz Choir.

Auditions were held October 14 in Effingham. Twenty-eight students from eight are schools were chosen to participate in the District Jazz Festival on November 4 at Eastern Illinois University.

Students rehearsed all day with director Bob Mohr in preparation for the concert that evening. Hannah Apple and Jessie Denning had solos in “September Song.” Other songs included “Like Someone in Love”, “Rachel”, and “Take Five”.

“I was very pleased to have our school and community so well represented by this fine group of students,” said Shelbyville High School vocal director Patty Finks. “Their dedication, preparation and understanding of jazz music allowed them to be part of this special day.”
