Shelbyville summer reading program underway

The summer reading program at Shelbyville Public Library is underway but it is not too late to sign up for it.

“Paws to Read” encourages students to continue to read through the summer months and introduces preschoolers to reading. The program runs from June 9 - July 18.

Those who can read enroll in the I Can Read program which requires 21 hours of reading over a six-week period. Preschool enroll in the Read To Me program which requires being 10.5 hours of being read to over a six-week period.

Awards will be given for reaching the goals.

“Local businesses have donated prizes for reaching goals,” said Library director Monica Cameron. “We have prizes from Monicals, Ices, and Druby’s.”

In addition to the reading goals, the Library will host entertainment programs each Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m.

“Readers my sign up anytime during the six weeks,” Cameron said. “You don’t have to be present on the last day to get your prizes. We’ll make sure you get it.”
