Equine Team attends horse judging trials

Thirteen members of the Shelby County Equine Team attended the 2013 All-Youth Horse Judging Trials held in conjunction with the Illinois Horse Fair on the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield March 2nd.

Four halter classes and four performance classes were judged. Represented breeds were Missouri Fox Trotters, Morgan, Percheron, Spotted Saddle Horses, Belgian, Morab and Rocky Mountain horses.

The contestants also answered two questions from each class at the conclusion of the judging contest. There were 86 competitors in the junior division and 103 in the senior division.

Shelby County Senior team #1 consisting of Andrew Mathis, Luke Daniels, Curt Campbell and Rylee McKinney placed 5th overall out of 26 teams.

Following closely in 7th place was the Shelby County Senior team #2 represented by Sydney Boehm, Jade Bleskey, Jessica Winter and Corrin Hunt.

Individually, Rylee McKinney placed 12th overall and Jessica Winter was 14th. The seniors made a strong showing in the halter division, with Sydney Boehm tying for 3rd with the second highest score of the day. Rylee McKinney and Curt Campbell tied for 5th in the halter division with the third highest score and Luke Daniels was 10th. Jessica Winter had the 3rd highest score of the day in questions, tying for 7th place.

In the junior division, the team of Hallie Horsman, Ashlyn Rhodes, Teri Hall and Amanda Hall placed 10th out of 25 teams. Haylee Ishmael also participated in the junior division. Teri Hall placed 25th overall, tying for 10th place overall in the halter classes.

The team’s next event will be the Regional Horse Bowl/Hippology contest April 6th in Casey, Illinois. They are coached by Theresa Boehm and Dr. Lori Miser.
