Jacob McIlwain named to Illinois College Dean's List

McIlwain on Illinois College dean’s list

JACKSONVILLE, IL - Jacob McIlwain of Windsor, a Windsor High School graduate, was named to Illinois College’s Spring 2013 dean’s list. McIlwain is a 2013 graduate of Illinois College.

Candidates for the dean’s list must complete at least 14 semester hours and post a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. All grades must be C or better, and no more than one C grade is allowed.

Founded in 1829, Illinois College is a residential liberal arts college fostering academic excellence rooted in opportunities for experiential learning while preparing students for lifelong success.

Dollarhide graduates from William & Mary

Williamsburg, VA - Eli Dollarhide from Strasburg recently graduated from the College of William & Mary with a BA degree.

Founded by royal charter in 1693, William & Mary is the second oldest educational institution in the nation. During the past 300 years, the college has educated three U.S. Presidents-Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe and John Tyler-numerous senators and members of congress and other national and international leaders. William & Mary is currently ranked among the nation’s top 10 public universities and has been designated a “Public Ivy.”

Fitzpatrick, Sims calendar contest winners

Two area students were among winners named in the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) 2014 Illinois Coal Calendar contest.

Brady Fitzpatrick and Grace Sims, both 6th graders at Jefferson Middle School in the Pana School district, were named among the essay winners. Their teacher is Rosilyn Schutt.

Fitzpatrick is the son of Tom and Melissa Fitzpatrick of Pana and the grandson of Fred and Sharon Fitzpatrick and Teresa Carr, all of Pana.

Sims is the daughter of Travis and Jodi Sims of Tower Hill and the granddaughter of Ron and Brenda Sims of Pana and James Trainor of Tower Hill.

The Coal Calendar will be used by DCEO as an education and promotional tool showing how coal and coal-based products play a fundamental role in everyday life. Approximately 1,700 students in grades 5-8 participated in the contest, submitting either an essay or a poster on Illinois coal.

First place winners receive $100. and the other winners were awarded $50 each.
