Postin to speak at LLC graduation May 16

Lake Land College will host the 47th annual Commencement Ceremony this Friday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lake Land College Field House.

Nearly 350 students will participate in the ceremony and more than 2,000 students will graduate after completing the fall and spring semesters.

During the ceremony, student trustee for the 2013-2014 school year, Koltin Postin, Moweaqua, will address the student body. During his year of service to the college, Postin represented the students of Lake Land on the local, state and national level while remaining active in college and community activities. Following his high school graduation from Central A&M High School, Postin enrolled in the agriculture transfer program at Lake Land College. He was elected to the Student Government Association and was honored earlier this year when he received the Lake Land College Agriculture Division Student of the Year Award. He will graduate with an associate in science degree in agriculture and will transfer to the University of Illinois where he will study agriculture and consumer economics.

Likewise, keynote speaker for this year’s ceremony is Stephen Thompson, owner of Intrepid Consulting Services, Inc., Mattoon, a cultural resources consortium focusing on historic preservation law regulatory process, management and re-development of historic properties, heritage tourism strategic planning, archaeological survey of U.S. military sites and National Register of Historic Places survey/nominations.

Thompson is a two-time graduate of Lake Land College, who earned a general studies degree in 1971 and an associate in science degree in 1985. He possesses a bachelor’s degrees from Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois and a master’s degree in history from Eastern Illinois University, with a specialty in historical administration. Thompson is a military historian specializing in historic preservation regulatory law, historic resource survey/identification and historic resource property management.

The Lake Land College Radio-TV Broadcasting Club is videotaping the Commencement Ceremony. DVD copies will be available for purchase outside the Field House after the ceremony. The ceremony will also air on Consolidated Communications’ DVS channel 13 on Saturday, May 24 at 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Mediacom 22 on Friday, May 30, at 10 a.m. Photos taken by the Lake Land College Communications & Creative Services Office will be available for download from the college’s home page at www.lakelandcollege.edu.
