Any parent who has had to pay a child’s college tuition or is planning on paying tuition can truly appreciate scholarships. On the last night of the Shelby County 4-H and Junior Fair the Shelby Extension Foundation awards the scholarships that have been set up by various groups or businesses. This year over $4,700 was awarded to worthy college students.

The following is the scholarships and the winners:

Marie Pollman Memorial Scholarship went to Clayton Walter of Pana; Rachel Vandenbergh also of Pana; and Allison Telgmann of Strasburg.

Gilbert Uphoff Memorial Scholarship went to Paige Biehler of Shelbyville.

Bartscht Family Memorial Scholarship went to Mark McBee of Herrick.

Shelby County 4-H College Scholarship went to Amanda Stirrett of Shelbyville.

Smith Family Scholarship went to Allison Telgmann of Strasburg; and Eli Dollarhide also of Strasburg.

Dale Rincker Memorial Scholarship went to Lee Rincker of Shelbyville.

Annabelle Robertson Memorial Scholarship went to Whitney Walter of Pana.

Sloan Implement Scholarship went to Jason Barker of Shelbyville; Ryan Vandenbergh of Pana; and Kolton Smith of Shelbyville.

Pork Producers Scholarship went to Taylor Helton of Strasburg; and Katelyn Durbin of Shelbyville.

Chris Barker Memorial Scholarship went to Kaleb Pruemer of Shelbyville; and Lowell Getz of Findlay.

The Sloan Implement Scholarship is normally awarded to two recipients but this year it was awarded to three students. Gary Patterson, Store Manager for Sloan Implement in Shelbyville said there were actually 4 students that qualified for this year’s scholarships.

“We had several excellent quality applicants for this year’s scholarship and they were narrowed down to four,” said Patterson. “Of those four one was being presented with a scholarship from another source, so the field was down to three and it was decided to award the scholarships to all three.”

Patterson went on to say the applications go through the Extension office. The judging is also done by the Extension Office according to a set of rules established by Sloan Implement.
