Neoga leads area at EIU Indoor

The Charleston Boys Indoor Meet at EIU last weekend was a preview of things to come this track season.

Most notable was the strong showing from Neoga which placed 7th overall among all theClass A (30 teams) and Class AA (50 teams) teams that competed in their own separate meets. Neoga (37 pts) was followed by 12th place (7th Class A) Shelbyville (26 pts) and they will challenge Neoga this spring as the best team in the Shelby Area. Central A&M scored five points, while Sullivan-Okaw Valley competed, but didn’t score.

Shelbyville’s 4x8 relay team (Cory Powers, Drennian Martin, Myles Foor, Neil Yockey) captured the indoor crown running a 8:26.10. Last spring, the Ram earned an 8th place medal at the IHSA Class A State Meet, running an 8:10. Two of the team members also placed 5th in their respective individual events, Powers in the 400 (54.05) and Martin in the 800 (2:08.82).

The most successful individual from the Shelby Area was Corey Kersey of Neoga. Kersey won the triple jump (44-0) and was 2nd in the long jump (21-5.25). Neoga had another champion in Derek Williamson. Williamson won the 200 meter dash (23.4) and was 5th in the 55 meter dash (6.71). Shelbyville sprinter Eli Miller was the runner-up in the 55 meters (6.64).
