W/SS Near 20 Wins

W/SS baseball (19-4) is on the verge of a 20-win season in their 1st year as a co-op after dismissing Beecher City on Monday, 14-0, South Central on Tuesday, 8-1, then surviving Nokomis in extra-innings on Wednesday, 8-6.

W/SS hammered 13 hits in the 14-zip rout of Beecher City at Windsor. Five W/SS players had multiple hits, led by Gunner Theis, who went 3-for-4 with a home runs in the 3rd, 3 runs scored and four RBIs. Daily Union Athlete of the Week Christian Vonderheide homered in the 1st, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Alex Allen was 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs. Brandon Helmuth was a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Ben Helton notched his sixth win (6-1) with a 2-hit shut out through four innings, striking out six.

At Stew-Stras on Tuesday, W/SS followed up the rout with a weird win. W/SS was out-hit by South Central 7 to 5, but somehow came away with the win. South Central did boot the ball twice and walked three to make up for the hitting deficit.

W/SS broke a 1-1 tie in the 3rd with a 4-run boost. They held to that lead until the 6th inning, when W/SS added a 3-run rally. Although South Central had seven hits, they couldn’t get the base runners in. W/SS had seven RBIs toward their eight runs, timely hitting.
