Moulton Middle School principal Russ Tomblin noted that ISAT testing will be held the first week of March. He added that as a result of last year’s test results that Shelbyville ranked 5th out of 40 area schools.
“That validates that we are doing pretty darn good. We’re ranked right up there at the top. Good job,” said board member Mark Snider.
Tomblin reported that $800 was raised for the American Heart Association during the “Red Out” t-shirt sales. Students were encouraged to wear red on February 20 and those wearing the t-shirts received free admission to the volleyball game that night.
High School principal Rich Stewart reported that the WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering) team competed at Lake Land College recently. Cale Atkinson won the engineering graphic division and received a $1,000 tuition waver. He will compete at the sectional meet at EIU.

- The annual PTO dodgeball tournament will be held Saturday, March 1 at the high school
- The 4th grade is collecting Prairie Farms milk caps through April 30. For every 1000 caps collected, Prairie Farms will give a check to the Agriculture awareness Committee in support of the Shelby County Agriculture in the Classroom project.
- 1st-3rd grade students are working toward 500 classroom compliments with a “Cake in the “Face” for the top three voted teachers or staff members.
- Bradley Sanders, Kylie Smith and Tailyn Hancock were this month’s teacher recommended Positive Office referrals.
Bence reviewed the Board Policy updates. One highlight was to prohibit the possession or use of medical marijuana on school property.
Board member Gary Hayden countered, “I’ve seen it happen where a cancer patient is using it for pain control. It may need to be allowed in some cases.”
Bence said that the policy would have to be further reviewed.
In other action, the board approved the senority lists of certified and non-certified staff members.
As a result of executive session, the board approved Leslie Miller and Melissa Clark as assistant Jr. High track coaches.
