---- — The Indian Creek High School Choir will be returning to the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville on their annual choir tour Saturday, March 8, and Sunday, March 9.

The choir will perform a community concert at 7 p.m. Saturday in the church sanctuary. The concert will feature a variety of choral literature from classical, folk songs and spirituals including solos and ensembles. The concert is open to the public and free of charge. The choir will also provide special music during the Sunday morning worship service.

Indian Creek High School is located in northern Illinois just south of Dekalb. The school district is one of the larger rural districts int eh area and the students live mainly in the towns of Shabbona and Waterman. Their director is John Feken, who is a former member of Shelbyville First Methodist and the community.

The choir tour to First Methodist first began as a way to build the choral program at Indian Creek. The students needed a place to practice and perform, away from the school setting, including the opportunity for the students to socialize and bond in a safe and welcoming environment. First Methodist became that place. For many years, the choir has taken a short weekend tour and after a few years of hiatus, returned to the tour last year. The original intent of the tour continued to allow students to practice in a wonderful choral space and the opportunity to enhance their personal friendships.
