Skidmore, Barricklow in 1st Sunday Sing

Shelbyville Daily Union

---- — Many Shelbyville locals are familiar with the beautiful singing voice of Sharon Barricklow. She, along with a recent resident of Shelbyville, Janet Skidmore, will share their voices with the public on January 5 at First Sunday Sing held at Flourishes Gallery and Studios in downtown Shelbyville (140 ½ E. Main). The Sing begins at 3 p.m. a

Sharon and Janet will sing gospel and encourage others to sing with them. They will share the ballroom stage that day with Kristen Nelson from Decatur, a songwriter/singer/guitarist.

Organizer and owner of Flourishes, Carol Kessler, has long heard, appreciated, enjoyed and ultimately invited Sharon Barricklow to sing at Flourishes and it will now happen. Sharon has been the voice and Carol the listener at the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. Sharon shared with Carol that her singing debut started with her singing “Silent Night” at the age of four at that same church.

Janet Skidmore, a new resident to Shelbyville and Illinois, she states, “I have loved singing since my early youth, having sung my first solo at the school Christmas program. I sang Away in a Manger in the first grade and continued from there to choirs and quartets in church and school.” As an adult she has sung in church choirs for thirty years or more, barbershop quartets, for special occasions in the local communities and in nursing facilities. Janet hopes to have a small group of like-minded musicians to travel to shut-ins or nursing facilities once a month or so. With a laid back Amy Grant kind of style, simply singing gospel hymns and sharing God’s Word, she hopes others will join her. First Sunday Sing may just be that connection to make it happen.

All performers share their talent free to the public. There will be opportunity to converse with the music artists during the reception time. Notice the sidewalk sign with the big purple bow at the street level and come on up to enjoy.
