County Clerk offers property fraud alert service

Shelbyville Daily Union

Jessica Fox, Shelby County Clerk & Recorder, wants to inform residents of a new online subscription service that allows the public to have their name/property monitored within the County Clerk & Recorder’s office in order to track possible fraudulent activity. Subscribers will be notified when the name they have submitted is used in any recording activities within the office. When subscribing to the service, the subscriber will have the option to choose one of the following notification methods – E-Mail or telephone call.

Protecting consumers’ information and real estate property are top priorities for County Clerk & Recorder Fox and her staff. “At the most recent Illinois Association of County Clerk’s and Recorder’s conference I attended, we learned about the frequency with which property fraud has been occurring in northern Illinois. I felt it was important to protect the property owners of Shelby County before this type of crime started happening in our area. This service is easy to sign up for and offers a little extra peace of mind with just a few clicks of the computer mouse.” says Fox. While Property Fraud Alert does not prevent fraud from happening; it provides an early warning system for property owners to take appropriate actions should they determine possible fraudulent activity has taken place.

Property Fraud Alert is now available by subscription on the web at, or by calling 1-800-728-3858. You may also call the Shelby County Clerk & Recorder’s Office at (217) 774-4421 with inquiries.

The free service is managed and maintained by Fidlar Technologies, the county’s software provider for land records.
