Shelby County to celebrate 4-H Week

Shelby County 4-H Week is March 15 – March 21, 2014. 4-H Week’s theme is 4-H . . . It’s out of this World. 4-H leaders and families are going to be busy with all the activities that are being planned. This is also the last month to join 4-H as the registration deadline is April 3.

March 12 – Federation members are taking cinnamon rolls to the County Board meeting at the Courthouse.

March 15 – Amazing Race

The Amazing Race consists of a 4 member 4-H team and a driver. Clues are given to members and they guess the location and then drive to their destination. Once they arrive at their destination, teams are given a Minute to Win It type of Challenge. Once they complete the challenge, they are awarded “4-H money” and are given clues to their next location. After the race, teams will meet back at the 4-H Center and will have pizza donated by the Shelby County Federation. The “4-H money” will be tallied and the top 3 teams will receive prizes. Amy Rochkes is the designer of the Amazing Race course and 4-H thanks her for all her hard work.

March 16 – Members will attend a church of their choice.

March 16 – 4-H members, friends and family are invited to come to a skating party at Silver Stars Skating Rink in Mattoon from 5:00-7:30 pm.

March 17 – Window Displays must be set-up by 9:00 a.m for judging. Clubs throughout the county decorate a business’s window based on the 4-H week theme. Be on the lookout for window displays in Findlay, Moweaqua, Oconee, Shelbyville, Sigel, and Strasburg. Results are given out at International Night.

March 18 – International Night is held at the 4-H center at 6:00 p.m. Clubs pick out countries and then prepare food and decorate for that country. A food donation is also held. Clubs are asked to bring non-perishable food items which will in turn be donated to the Shelby County food pantry. New this year will be a contest for the best country’s dish. 1 penny equals 1 vote and the first $50 collected will be used to purchase additional items for the food pantry. The winning club will also receive $20 from Federation.
