The Cowden-Herrick school board and teachers’ association have set a date to continue contract talks with the help of a federal mediator.
The date for mediation is November 4 beginning at 7:30 p.m. provided the federal government shutdown is over.
On September 3, members of the Cowden-Herrick Teachers’ Association unanimously voted not to accept the administration’s contract proposal offered August 29. Two days later the association asked for a joint request for mediation. After the school board approved the request for mediation at the September meeting, both sides and the mediator have been trying to juggle schedules to find a date when all could meet.
The teachers’ association contract expired June 30. The union represents about 40 teachers, teacher aides, secretaries, bus drivers, cooks and custodial staff.
