Council approves Trunk or Treat location

The fourth annual Trunk or Treat night in Shelbyville will be held October 31 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The Shelbyville City Council approved use of the south courthouse parking lot during its meeting Monday evening.

“We will set up as soon as courthouse employees leave at 4 and be cleared out by 7,” said organizer Vonda McConnell. “It’s a safe, contained activity that has grown every year.”

Citywide trick or treat night is October 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The council also approved a TIF grant request from Dr. Stan Spesard for his building at 324 E. Main. A roof covering is estimated to cost $7,145. The grant award is in the amount of $3,572.50.

The council approved the appointment of Ellen Kruse to the Library Board of Trustees.

Council members were presented the draft of the ordinance for dumping waste at the city dump for review. The ordinance will be voted on at the October 21 meeting.

Two requests were presented to the council: an extension of the sidewalk on North 9th Street from Walnut to Will and a request by the Garden Club to put in a sidewalk around the interior of the Sunken Garden and a ramp from the parking lot down to the sidewalk to make it handicap accessible.

Both items will be considered.
