The perfect season

Shelbyville JFL heavyweights ran the table this year (13-0), converting the number 13 into a lucky number. The Rams started the season scalding their competition at a JFL jamboree. They carried that momentum like Sherman’s March to the Sea through, steamrolling all their conference opponents and finishing with a forfeit.

The Rams out-scored their opponents 531 to 55. The offense racked up almost 4000 yards (3892) and scored 70 touchdowns. All their opponents, combined, only gained 363 total yards of offense and just five touchdowns altogether.

Ram defenders recorded 125 tackles for loss, more than 10 tackles for loss per game. The defense also registered eight interceptions and converted five of them into pick sixes. Shelby also recovered six fumbles, three for TDs. The Rams had 14 take-aways in 12 games.

“It was a great year,” said Ram coach Matt Cloe. “The kids worked hard and our record is an indication of that. We don’t usually focus on wins and losses, but instead doing things correctly. This group was very determined to do things the correct way.”

The correct way allowed 17 different Rams recording rushing yards, 13 different Rams recording receiving yards, and five different passers throwing for yardage. Seven different Rams scored on the ground and 11 different Rams scored receiving TDs. Four different Rams passed for touchdowns. On defense, 26 different Rams recorded tackles, 11 different Rams had tackles for loss.

“Not all of the kids on this football team are great football players,” Coach Cloe said. “However, they all possess great character. Everyone on this team brings something to the table that helps us accomplish our goals. They are a “tight-knit” group that cares for each other and cares for how they do things. They take a lot of pride in their craft.”

Leading the Rams in their craft was quarterback Turner Pullen, who rushed for 638 yards and 14 TDs. He also threw for 1864 yards and 35 TDs, with only one interception. He also caught four passes for 100 yards and two TDs. On defense, he had 89 tackles, 13 for loss.
