---- — The Shelbyville Lady Ram volleyball team ran their conference record to a perfect 6-0 after emerging from a 3-game set at Monticello on Tuesday with a victory, 25-16, 19-25, 25-20.
The Rams blew by the Sages in game 1, winning by nine points. But game 2, the Rams were off a bit and it left the door open for Monty. Game 3, Shelby fine-tuned and bounced back to claim the win.
“We played the first game of this match really well,” said Ram coach Lisa Peifer. “ By keeping them on defense most of the game, we were able to force errors on their part. The 2nd game, we stayed consistently aggressive, but were just barely missing on great swings. We played from behind whole game. Thankfully, we were able to rebound in the 3rd game to take the match. It was a pretty good win for us.”
Madison Boone was the net assassin in this match, swinging for 10 kills and defending with two blocks (12 net points). Brandy Smith was the counter punch this time, swinging for six kills and leading the court defense with a team-high nine digs.
They got help at the net from the aggressive team attack. Claudia Watson had three kills, Rachel Fox two and Haley Eisenbarth with one, totaling 23 team kills. Kelcie Darnell was also playing net defense with two blocks, while Watson had one.
Lindsey Eigsti dished 14 of the 19 assists and served 12 points for a double-double. Courtney Williams was strutting her stuff at the line again, serving a team-high 16 points with three of the five Ram aces. She also dished the other five assists.
The Rams had 28 digs, holding off the Sages.

The Ram fresh-soph team took just their third loss of the season, dropping a 3-game set, 9-15, 15-11, 9-15.
“We started off playing extremely slow!” said fresh-soph coach Ann Dunaway. “We weren’t talking and no one wanted to take control of the ball.”
There were five rams that scored kills, but no one had more than two. Elly Oldham and Jacque Johnston had the best stats and that was in digs. Oldham had six and Johnston had five. The team had 24 digs, but just 10 kills and two aces.
“When we start out like this it is hard to get ahead, because we only play game to 15,” Coach Dunaway said. “We started to look better the 3rd and 4th game, only because we had extra time.”
