Cowden Native to hold book signing

Shelbyville Daily Union

---- — A Cowden native will return for a book signing at the Dry Point Township Library on Thursday, October 17.

Rod O’Kelley, PhD., currently of Terre Haute, Indiana, has written a book about growing up in Cowden, “Comin’ Up Country”. Today he owns a private cattle and swine research farm and is owner of Boot City, a retail boot and western wear story, and Boot City Opry in Terre Haute.

The book retraces the path of O’Kelley’s life from a one-room schoolhouse to universities with classrooms large enough to hold the entire population of Cowden.

O’Kelley received a master’s degree from Southern Illinois University in 1965 and a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1969.

In 2008 he was awarded an Outstanding Alumni Award by the V.P.I. School of Agriculture. He was engaged in a number of livestock related positions with universities and commercial enterprises for many years. In 1976 he established a private research farm to conduct cattle and swine research for feed and pharmaceutical firms.

O’Kelley will be at the library from 5 to 7 p.m. for a book signing. His books will also be available for purchase. Those unable to attend but would like a signed copy can call the Library at 783-2616.

The Dry Point Township Library is located in the Cowden High School.
