CIPT looking for ridership increase

Central Illinois Public Transit is looking to increase ridership in Shelby County.

Dennis Shiley, CEFS transportation director, was introduced to the Shelby County Board at its regular meeting Wednesday. He told the board that he wants to increase ridership 60 percent in the area.

CIPT provides transportation to various locations in the area, including doctors, grocery stores, and shopping areas, for a small fee. The program has also begun providing transportation to work locations around the Shelby County area.

“People still don’t know we’re available in Shelby County,” Shiley said.

To schedule a ride, contact CIPT, 774-3827, with a 24-hour notice.

“If necessary, we can do one-hour notice midday in Shelby County,” Shiley said.

In other business, County engineer Alan Spesard presented a petition from Cold Spring/ Herrick townships for a box culvert replacement on the township line, 3 miles northeast of Herrick. Cost of the replacement is $4,000 to be shared between the county and both townships. This was approved by the board.

Spesard also presented a resolution to use federal funding to replace two railroad approaches in Okaw Township. Together the estimated cost is $238,000 and will be at no cost to the county; however the township cost of the project is $5,000.

The approved Lakewood bridge replacement will be paid by an emergency grant, according to Spesard, Estimated cost is $317,388.

Spesard also noted that the Oklahoma bridge in Cold Spring township is now open and the Neoga bridge should be opened in the next 3-4 weeks.

In reference to two bridges in Rose Township, the one on the county road is now open and work on the other bridge will begin in the spring.

Zoning administrator Jared Rowcliffe reported that 15 building permits were approved in September.

“That’s pretty much where we were last year,” Rowcliffe said.

Rowcliffe also noted that he will be programming weather radios during the annual TRIAD car inspection on October 16.
