---- — The 5th Annual Chris Barker Memorial Tractor held on Sunday, June 9, welcomed 58 tractor drivers from all over Illinois. The tractor drive which perpetuates the Chris Barker Memorial Scholarship through the Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation raised over $5,000 and deemed success considering the late planting season and wet weather.
Antique tractors from all over Illinois participated in the ride to raise funds for the Chris Barker Memorial Scholarship. 58 tractors of all makes and models registered for the event held on the Shelby County 4-H & Jr. Fairgrounds. Both routes made their way to the Findlay area with stretch and rest breaks at Eagle Creek Resort Campground and Richard Morse farm.
In addition to the drive and show a silent auction was held thanks to the generous donations of local businesses.
A special thanks to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Shelby County Emergency Management Agency and City of Shelbyville Police Department for helping the tractor drivers cross highways, rail road crossings and travel safely through the county.
Since 2009, fifteen Shelby County students have been awarded $16,250 in scholarship monies to continue their education in agriculture through the Chris Barker Memorial Scholarship.
Next year’s drive will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2014. For more information on the Chris Barker Memorial Scholarship and the Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation or to make a contribution, please contact the Shelby County Farm Bureau at 217-774-2151 or email@example.com.
