Shelby County 4-H holds Cooking 101 workshop

Shelbyville Daily Union

---- — Shelby County 4-Her’s were busy baking cornbread, applesauce, brownies and granola bars on June 11. Recipes that were used came from the Cooking 101 manual. 4-Her’s were divided in 3 groups of 3. Each group was given a different variation of the recipe such as using margarine, butter or oil and some sifted flour while others did not. At the end of the workshop, everyone tasted all the variations and discussed what they liked and disliked. Most all of the 4-Her’s liked the recipes that used real butter. The workshop was led by Carrie Downs from the Cake & Candy Connection located in Moweaqua.

Shelby County 4-H would like to thank Mary Beth Massey for letting us use the kitchen at the Shelby County Senior Center.

Carrie will be back on June 25 to do a cake decorating workshop for 4-H members and then again on June 27 to teach everyone how to make flowers for cake decorating.
