Cowden-Herrick CUSD 3A will hold two informational public meetings regarding school finance and possible sports coop on Monday, March 11, the the High School gym.
The school finance meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. The predicted $534,000 deficit will be discussed including proposed certified and non-certified staff, curriculum, sports transportation cuts, etc. for the 2013-14 school years. Possible options to offset the monetary cuts will also be discussed.
The sports coop meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Discussion entails possible sports coop of junior high scholara bowl, high school scholar bowl, junior high boys’ basketball, high school girls’ volleyball, and high school boys’ basketball. Coop options will discuss host schools for new proposed coop sports, budget costs, transportation options, etc.
“I hope to see many at the two meetings,” said superintendent Darrell Gordon. “We will still continue to provide our students the best education we can even when the state of Illinois fails to keep its end of the bargain. We will strive to reduce the cuts to a minimum, with the desire to keep everyone employed, our curriculum and programs in place, and still achieve a zero budget deficit.”
