---- — Shelbyville 2A took advantage of a few plays and tipped the scales in their favor as they knocked off 3A state favorite Columbia on Saturday, 3-2. Columbia bounced back in the second game of the double-dip once the intensity of the match-up wore off and won amidst an explosion of runs.

Grace “The Ace” Moll threw for Shelbyville and Columbia’s ace, headed for Iowa State, Weilbacher was in the circle for them. Weilbacher used her rise ball to keep the Rams hit crew in check, but they were able to manufacture a enough runs to get the win.

Shelby drew first blood in the 2nd inning. With one out, Jensen Cloe worked a walk and with two outs Lindsey Eigsti put the ball in play. The infielder muffed the ball and the speedy Eigsti beat the throw, putting two runners on.

Courtney Williams then drew a walk to load the bases for powerful hitter Madison Boone with just one out. Boone was hit by a pitch, forcing in a run and giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Columbia tried to get that run back in the top of the 3rd. They had a chance, but they fell short. Rachel Fox threw out the first batter, 3rd to 1st. The next batter drew a walk, followed by a single. With two on, one out, Moll rang up her fifth victim.

An error at 1st base, tempted the runner going to 3rd to try for home. But, Moll tracked down the ball and threw to catcher Kayla Brachbill, who put the tag on the runner to end the threat and the inning.

After that thrilling play, the adrenalin was still flowing when Moll went to the plate to lead off the bottom of the 3rd. She smashed a 2-2 pitch for a solo home run and a 2-0 Ram lead.

Jensen Cloe got hold of a 1-2 pitch and raced around to 3rd for a triple. She was left on base, but the Rams had a lead.

In the top of the 5th, Columbia finally got on the board against Moll and the Rams. Moll KO’d her 7th victim, but Tochette got enough of a pitch that it jumped off the bat for a triple. A sac fly scored the Columbia 3rd baseman, 2-1 Rams. Moll hit the #9 batter, but threw out the #1 hitter on a comebacker to the mound.

The Rams were still holding on to the tenuous lead heading into the 7th, but things would get interesting.

Fox threw out the next batter, but an error at home allowed Bastien to score and tie the game, 2-2. The next batter walked, but was thrown out trying to steal 2nd, ending the inning.

Shelby had a shot to get the win in regulation in the bottom of the 7th. They took advantage of their opportunity.

Madison Boone led off with a single and Kayla Brachbill made it two in a row. With two on and no outs, Moll was walked. Weilbacher struck out the next batter. Then Brandy Smith laid down a perfect, game-winning bunt as Boone sped home for the 3-2 walk-off win.
