Trinity Takes 2nd In State

Stewardson Trinity Lutheran volleyball placed 2nd at SIJHSAA State getting to the state championship match before losing to Germantown, 24-26, 16-25.

In the 1st round at State, Trinity beat Thompsonville, 25-14,25-18. In the quarter finals, trinity beat Waltonville, 25-13, 25-21. Trinity rolled on in the state semis, besting Bartelso, 25-13, 25-18.

“The girls really played hard, beating teams who were so much bigger and older,” said Coach Ronda Schlechte. “I’m a very proud coach! They always play their hearts out!”

Bartelso enrollment is 122, Thompsonville’s is 221, Waltonville’s is 243, Germantown’s is 241. Trinity’s enrollment is 45.

“To play with these big teams and win or stay with them is a huge accomplishment,” Coach Schlechte said. “Our fall season, we were 16-2 getting beat only by Christ Peoria twice. This spring, we finished 23-1 for a total of 39-3. Our accomplishments this year...2nd at LSA state, 1st at St.A tourney and Effingham’s 7th grade tourney, and were regional champs.”

Becca Schlechte led the Cardinals with a 50/50 performance at State.

She recorded 51 kills and 50 digs. Calla Roney served up a team-high 39 points with a team-high 15 aces, while Jocelyn Schultz dished out a team-leading 77 assists.
