---- — Friends and family lined the highway from the I-70/Route 45 exit to Neoga to honor one of their own.

SSG Randall R. “Randy” Lane, 43, of Indianapolis, died September 13 in Afghanistan while serving in the Indiana Army National Guard of a noncombat-related illness. He was brought home to Neoga Tuesday for funeral services Wednesday.

Lane served more than 20 years and had previously served as a U.S. Marine.

The processional route was lined with uniformed military members, firefighters, police, emergency personnel from across the area, school children, and residents. Many carried flags and maintained a silent respect as the motorcade passed by.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at First Christian Church in Neoga. Burial was in Swedish Lutheran Cemetery in rural Neoga.
