2nd Quarter Dooms Shelbyille

(Continued)

St. T had two negative plays, then connected on a 67 yard TD pass play on 3rd and 16. Big play #3. The kick missed, but the final nail was in the coffin with 8:02 left in the game, 43-14.

The mortal blow had been struck, but Shelby wasn't done. Shelby got a big play, a screen pass to Wyatt Fox that went 57 yards to the St. T 5. Three plays later Tyler Hendryx stretched out the ball to break the plane of the goal line. With 6:03 left, Shelby was down by three touchdowns, 43-21.

Shelby kicked off and St. T started another drive. They picked up two 1st downs and covered 28 yards. But a motion penalty on 4th and 3, killed the drive. They punted to put Shelby deep in their own territory with a minute to play.

Jared Finley ran back the punt 10 yards to the Ram 15. Duckett threw to McConnell and an interference penalty was called, giving the Rams 1st and 10 at the St. T 25.

With 32 seconds left, Duckett threw to Hendryx in the end zone and he caught it for the score. The 2-point conversion failed and the Rams lost by two touchdowns with 23.6 seconds remaining, 43-27.

Shelbyville (1-4) returns home next week to host winless Clinton.
