---- — What is happening at Flourishes Gallery and Studios in downtown Shelbyville? New art workshops for children grades K-6 are set. New topic discussions are also set for Art Talk Tuesday times. First Sunday Sing on July 7 has been set with gospel music you are sure to enjoy. A new exhibit in the gallery will be set up soon with the opening reception taking place on July 7 from 1-3 p.m. The details are as follows:
The Tuesday Summer Art Workshops for July are on July 2, July 9, and July 23 from K-3 grades from 10-11 and grades 4-6 from 1:30-2:30. Sign up needs to be immediately by calling 217-827-5690. Wood sculpture in the style of Louise Nevelson, coil pottery like the ancient Greeks and illuminated letter and color of a Rose window of the Medieval or Middle Ages are the topics of study.
Art Talk Tuesday is open free to all and starts at 3:00 each Tuesday listed for an open forum on art with the discussion/practice starting running from 3:30-4:30. The topics are July 2/Figure drawing basics from a stick figure, July 9/Making of a monoprint to embellish, July 23/What to do with that monoprint, August 13/Working with colored pencils and August 20/Pop up book basics. All supplies will be provided.
Jan Van Bokel and Becky Marcussen from Effingham will be the featured gallery artists. Come and see their art and talk to them at the official opening on Sunday, July 7 from 1-3 .m. Browse the rest of the gallery as well. Refreshments will be served.
First Sunday Sing on July 7 will feature Eagle’s Wing Quartet, men from the surrounding area that sing beautifully together, and Shelbyville residents, Emily Perry and Joy Palmer. Joy will play her violin. All music will be gospel, new and old. Three o’clock is the start time. Come and enjoy.
