Fred Bugenhagen Shumway

Fred August Bugenhagen, 88, of Shumway, IL passed away at 5:10 AM Wednesday June 26, 2013 in Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, IL

He was born April 30, 1925 in Prairie Township, Shelby County, Illinois the son of Fred Carl and Racy Klepzig Bugenhagen.

He married Esther Martha Rincker on Dec. 21, 1947 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Strasburg, IL with Rev. G. A. Lueck officiating.

Fred was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Stewardson, IL He began his farming career as a young man at the age of fourteen and he drove farm grain trucks for 60 years from the age of fifteen to seventy-five.

Surviving him are his wife Esther; daughter Kay Allen and husband Melvin of Mattoon, IL; sons: Fred Martin Bugenhagen and wife Becky of Calhan, CO and Paul Bugenhagen and wife Gloria of Stewardson, IL; daughter-in-law Sandy Bugenhagen of Mode, IL; three grandchildren: Andy Bugenhagen, Luke Bugenhagen and Phillip Bugenhagen; four step grandchildren; thirteen step great grandchildren; one step great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son Carl, his parents and sisters: Grace Redfern and husband Don, Clara Miller and husband Emeran and Ruth Jeschawitz and husband Edwin and brother Glen Bugenhagen.

Funeral services will be held in Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson on Saturday Jun 29, 2013 at 10:30 AM. . Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday in Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Stewardson or the Trinity Lutheran School in Stewardson. School.
