---- — Shelby Jr. Legion’s fuse was wet at the start the Firecracker Tourney and dropped a pair of games on Tuesday, 8-2 to Moultrie Douglas and 6-0 to Danville.
Shelby had six runners in scoring position in the first five innings, but couldn’t get them in, while Moultrie-Douglas scored five runs in the 1st with only one hit. A hit batter, two walks, a sacrifice and two Shelby errors put Shelby in a hole. Three walks and a hit batter in the 3rd gave up two more runs, 7-0 Mo-Do.
Finally in the 6th, Shelby got on the board. With one out, Trevor Moore hit a single, followed by a single from Dylan Ohnesorge. A fielder’s choice by Jacob Kramer eliminated the lead runner. Tristan Warner reached on an error with two outs and drove in a run. Trevor Easton reached on an error and drove in another run, 7-2 Moultrie-Douglas. Mo-Do added a run in the bottom of the 6th to cap the scoring, 8-2.
In their second game of the day, Shelby couldn’t even get on the board against Danville, 6-0.
Once again, Shelby had seven runners in scoring position, but couldn’t cash in. Moore drew a walk in the 1st and Tristan Warner (2-for-3) singled. They advanced to 3rd and 2nd on a passed ball with one out, but were stranded on the first of nine strikeouts and a ground out.
Danville scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st.
After two strikeouts in the 3rd, Moore drew another walk and Warner singled again. But a ground out killed that chance. Still down just 2-0 in the 4th, Jacob Kramer walked and Trevor Easton hit into a fielder’s choice forcing out Kramer. Easton went to 2nd on a passed ball and Derek Moschenrose reached on a dropped 3rd strike. With just one out, another K and a line out by Josh Overbeck foiled Shelby again.
Danville had a 4-run rally in the 4th on a double, five walks, a sac fly, and a fielder’s choice.
Down 6-0 in the 5th, Moore hit a 1-out single to reach base for the third straight time. He went to 2nd on a wild pitch. Warner hit the ball, but Moore was out on the base paths. Dylan Ohnesorge reached on an error and with two outs Warner was on 2nd. A ground out killed that chance, again.
In the 6th, Shelby was in another hole. Trevor Easton drew a lead-off walk and sparked a slim hope. But, Danville’s pitcher, Turner, KO’d the next three Shelby batters, recording his 7th, 8th, and 9th strikeouts and securing the shutout.
