Winter Female Athlete of the Year

The Daily Union Winter Female Athlete of Year for 2012-13 is no surprise. She is the best female basketball player to come along in years, senior all-state center Micah Jones of CHBC. Jones scored 2220 points and recorded 1499 rebounds in her career.

Jones led her team to three state appearances in four years and averaged a double-double all four years of her high school career. Jones led CHBC to 103 wins out of 122 games in four years.

This season, Jones had to take over more of the scoring to get the Hornets (26-7) back to State. She scored 790 points and averaged 24 points per game. She snared 548 boards, averaging 17 per game. She also had 102 steals, 116 assists and 119 blocked shots. She shot 53% from the field this season.

This year, Jones was 1st Team NTC Tourney, 1st Team All-NTC Conference, 1st Team Dieterich Tourney, 1st Team Highland Tourney, 1st Team All-State (AP), and 1st Team All-State IBCA.

Jones set individual career records for CHBC in total points (2220), total rebounds (1499), total assists (390), and total blocks (355). She averaged shooting 54% from the field for her career. She recorded a double-double in 112 of her 122 games. She recorded five triple-doubles in her career.

Her freshman year, Jones recorded the first-ever triple-double at the state tournament, with double-digit points, double-digit rebounds, and double-digit blocks in one game.

Micah Jones has signed to play basketball next year at Division I, SIU-Edwardsville.

Jones is the daughter of Laura Endsley of Cowden.
