Seasoned Citizens meet at monthly get-together

Thirty folks attended the February meeting of the Seasoned Citizens monthly get-together at noon Wednesday, February 27.

Chris Storm led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and Jane Giertz led in the opening prayer. Linda Oakley provided accurate information on upcoming events and reported on progress made in the community. The door prize was provided by Jane Giertz and the winner was Nancy Shiels, who also provided the tip of the day, “To stay young. Laugh often, laugh long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.”

Bob and Kay Adams shared how the little wooden crosses they were wearing were made from a set of 100-year-old oak church pews from Kentucky and given away all across the country and even in other countries.

The landscaping around the community building will begin in the spring and will be an improvement in the appearance of the newly modeled building.

The group was encouraged to attend the Dacey Trail Walk, featuring lighted luminaries, in Shelbyville Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30. Following that will be hot chocolate and a bonfire. It was suggested to bring flashlights to the event.

Anita Renshaw was introduced as our new town board member and Chris Daniels was introduced as our new Public Works superintendent. He mentioned that plans are in the making for improvements of the tennis and basketball courts along with a possible walking path.

The Seasoned Citizens want to thank the Shelby County Bank for supplying us for the small favors to take home. Also thanks to those who generously supplied extra Easter cards that we signed for local military personal to receive in time for Easter. Also thanks to those who provided the stamps to mail them.

The next meeting will feature the Irish baked potato extravaganza, to be held on March 27, at noon at the Strasburg Community Building. It is suggested that we wear green to the meeting.
