Lake Shelbyville Dog Days of Summer Dog Show a Hit

Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers presented the Nineteenth Annual Dog Days of Summer Dog Show at the Coon Creek Recreation Area Amphitheater on July 6, 2013. Nineteen dogs were entered in the competition and over 215 spectators enjoyed watching the canine participants show off their looks and talents. A wide variety of dogs were represented, including Poodles, Labradors, and a Great Dane. Bobber, the water safety dog, was spotted in Coon Creek earlier in the afternoon helping to prepare campers for the dog show’s excitement!

Five categories were judged. The winners were:

Biggest Dog: Baby Shay - owner Chris Veech of Mattoon, IL

Smallest Dog: Myles - owner Maci Reed of Neoga, IL

Best Dressed: Miley - owner Whinter Whiteside of Cerro Gordo, IL

Best Trick: Sammy - owner Wendy Hamm of Delavan, IL

Most Precious Puppy: Ozzie - owner Kathy Veech of Mattoon, IL

Each winner received a plaque and a prize package. The prize packages where donated by Noah’s Ark Pet Shoppe, Effingham; Happy Tails Grooming, Sullivan; Kaskaskia Valley Animal Hospital, Sullivan; Brix Veterinary, Shelbyville; Paws Pet Shop, Shelbyville; and County Market, Shelbyville. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like to thank the businesses, volunteers and everyone that participated in the Dog Days of Summer Dog Show for making it a success.

Please remember that all dogs visiting Lake Shelbyville’s recreation areas must be on a leash six feet or less in length or physically restrained at all times.

Pet owners are responsible for the removal of waste and pets are not allowed on the sand portions of Lake Shelbyville’s beaches.
