Gnometown Proud

Beautiful weather brought out droves of people for the 57th Annual Strasburg Homecoming. Guests enjoyed good food, music, tractors and much more good entertainment, including a few competitions.

Friday night was the “Kiss the Pig” contest. The “lucky” winners were Nate Wascher of Stewardson and Brittany Bowers of Strasburg. The event raised more than $425 for community improvements.

Saturday morning was the annual 5K and 1 mile run/walk.

Overall male and female winners were Grant Tice from Sullivan at 19:22 and Meredith Kull from Effingham at 23:18. Winners receiving a trophy in the various age categories were- Female 13 & under: 1st Elizabeth Bowyer, Shelbyville, 2nd Whitney Smith, Stewardson, 3rd Rachel Kessler, Strasburg. Female 14-19: 1st Morgan Stremming, Strasburg, 2nd Megan Cress, Strasburg, 3rd Sarah Luce, Strasburg. Female 20-29: 1st Carolyn Reed, Strasburg, 2nd Michelle Zacha, Strasburg, 3rd Laura Duncan, Strasburg. Female 30-39: 1st Holly Steiling, Moweaqua, 2nd Katy Lees, Decatur, 3rd Megan Rankin, Mattoon. Female 40-49: 1st Kristi Sabo, Teutopolis, 2nd Kristia Smith, Stewardson, 3rd Sheryll Elzer, Shelbyville; Female 50 & over: 1st Sallie Fischer, Decatur, 2nd Diane Jack, Strasburg; 3rd Donna Rincker, Strasburg; Male 13 & under: 1st Tanner Clark, Strasburg, 2nd Jon Gavin, Sullivan, 3rd Cole Steiling, Moweaqua. Male 14-19: 1st Jason Becker, Strasburg, 2nd Will Tabbert, Strasburg. Male 20-29: 1st Jeremy Reel, Strasburg, 2nd Lance Montgomery, Strasburg, 3rd Elijah Slifer, Stewardson. Male 30-39: 1st Brock Friese, Greenville, 2nd Rob Brown, Watson, 3rd Lindell Richards, Stewardson. Male 40-49: 1st Steve Kull, Effingham. Male 50 & over: 1st Tony Garrett, 2nd Robert Rosengarten, Effingham, 3rd John Fischer, Decatur.

After the run/walk was the first annual Strongman Competition. Contestants flipped a 280 pound tire, lifted more than 400 pounds on a trailer, carried 200 pounds in the Farmer’s Carry, and finally pulled a 10,000 pound fire truck.

Strongman winners - group 1 (195 pounds and under) 1st Josh Packer, Effingham, 2nd Rob Brown, Watson, and 3rd JT Friese, Stewardson. Strongman winners - group 2 (196 and over) – 1st Jack Oye, Arthur, 2nd Tom Grove, Strasburg, and 3rd Cameron Hall, Decatur.
