---- — Shelbyville baseball (9-1) finished off the week in style. They took a 1-run pitchers duel from Effingham on Thursday, then beat Tri-Valley and Clinton at the Clinton tourney on Saturday
Andrew Hawkins got the complete game, shutout win over Effingham, bending but not breaking. He allowed six hits and just one walk over seven innings, while striking out four.
Shelbyville got their one run in the 1st and Hawkins held Effingham in check the rest of the way. Luke Hatfield was 0-for-2, but he drove in the only run of the game. Eli Miller went 1-for-3 with a double, while Nate Standerfer and Lucas Duckett both went 1-for-3.

On Saturday, Shelby went to the Clinton tournament, rattled the bats and ran the table, winning both games.
Shelbyville beat Tri-Valley in the first game. getting most of their hits from a few batters. Eli Miller was 3-for-4 with a double and DH Brett Peifer, back from injury, went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Neil Yockey got the other hit and accounting for runs. He was 1-for-3 scoring twice and driving in a run. Tri-Valley had five hits, but couldn't get many of their runners home.
Shelby opened up a rally in the 2nd, manufacturing runs. After Andrew Hawkins had a lead-off walk, Yockey reached on an error. Garrett Manship sacrificed, moving the runners and Luke McConnell hit an RBI, sacrifice fly. Brett Peifer then singled a run in. Eli Miller got his second hit in two at bats. Keown reached on an error and Shelby was up, 4-0.
Tri-Valley scored on a walk and a couple of hits in the 3rd. Shelby got that run back, as Hatfield reached on an error. stole 2nd and went to 3rd on a passed ball. Hawkins walked and Yockey sac-flied Hatfield home, 5-1.
The 7th inning removed all doubt. Yockey led off with a single, Manship walked and with two outs, Miller hit a 2-run double. Keown reached on an error and Miller scored, 8-1 Rams.
Tri-Valley got two runs in the bottom of the 7th on walks, a hit batter and an error, but it was too little, too late.
Shelby then took on host Clinton. Both teams had early scoring then the game ground down to scoreless innings. Finally in the 7th, again, Shelby erupted.
The Rams started the 1st with four consecutive hits. Miller singled, Keown doubled. Hatfield had an RBI-single and Standerfer hit an RBI-single .Yockey ground out and drove in a run, 4-0 Rams.
Clinton got one run back on a walk and a double, 4-1. They came back for three runs in the 2nd to knot the score.Two walks set the table and brought on Keown to pitch. Three consecutive hits made it 4-4.
Neither team got traction, offensively, until the top of the 7th. Eli Miller led off with a triple and Keown singled him in. Hatfield singled. Standerfer then hit a sac fly, driving in a run. Yockey reached on an error and McConnell hit an RBI-single for a 7-4 lead.
Keown and the Rams would have to hold Clinton in the bottom of the 7th. They had retired Clinton in order the previous four innings. In the bottom of the 7th, Keown and the Rams did it again. Luke McConnell caught a fly ball for the first out. A ground out to the 3rd baseman was out #2. Keown then delivered a 2-2 pitch for strike three and the win.
Shelbyville (9-1) is scheduled to play at Sullivan on Tuesday to begin conference play, then at Vandalia on Thursday in non-conference action. The Rmas host St. Teresa on Friday.
