The Save Our Chautauqua committee has announced that it raised more than $8,600. from its Chautauqua Days and Chautauqua auction over the past two weekends.
“We are making progress,” said committee chairman Brenda Elder. “I think that we did very well on the Auction and Chautauqua Days.”
The auction held June 7 brought more than $5,200.
“We are appreciative of Danny Barker, who gave his time as auctioneer, and those who gave things, helped set up and haul stuff, handled the food and cleaned things,” said auction organizer Norma Hubbartt.
The group is looking to raise money for renovating the 111-year-old Chautauqua building in Forest Park to bring it back to its former glory. They have developed a business plan for using the building and are working on grant applications to help with the cost of the work.
The group will also welcome anyone who would like to volunteer.
“We’re always looking for people to help us or to take over some projects,” Hubbartt said.
