Sullivan, IL - Big River, the sweeping tale of Huck Finn’s adventures down the mighty Mississippi opens June 18 at The Little Theatre On The Square. This musical, based on Mark Twain’s timeless classic, The Adventures of Huck Finn features an award winning score by Roger Miller, the King of Country Music. Featuring numbers with a decidedly blue grass slant, this show’s songs included Muddy Water, Waiting for the Light to Shine, World’s Apart and Free at Last, plus many more fantastic Roger Miller hits.
Big River follows Huck Finn and his friend, Jim, a slave, as they seek to escape to freedom at the mouth of the Ohio River. Their adventures are hilarious, suspenseful and heartwarming, bringing to life the favorite characters from the novel such as the Widow Douglas, the uproarious King and Duke, Huck’s partner in crime, Tom Sawyer and their rowdy gang of pals and the lovely Mary Jane Wilkes and her trusting family. This jaunty journey provides a brilliantly theatrical celebration of pure Americana.
Direction for Big River will be by Kelly Shook, whose work was last seen in this season’s 42nd Street at The Little Theatre. Andrew Kruep, who joins The Little Theatre cast after appearing in the National Tour of Elf, stars as Huck Finn and Gilbert Domally who most recently was seen in Bailiwick Chicago’s production of Dessa Rose, stars as Jim. Musical direction for the show will be by Kevin Long with scenic design by Alex Gaines.
