Shelby Legion swept by Mattoon

Shelby Legion (Posts 289-611-725) went to Mattoon Post 88 on Thursday and got thumped, 10-0 and 7-2.

Mattoon jumped on Shelby starter Dylan Ohnesorge (Stew-Stras), who didn’t get help behind him. Shelby committed six errors. Five of their six runs against Ohnesorge were unearned. Still he gave up eight hits in 4.3 innings with only one walk and two strikeouts.

Mattoon scored four runs in the 1st inning and came back with two runs in the 3rd. Tyler Hendryx (Shelbyville) came on in relief in the 5th and was touched for four runs in the 6th, as Mattoon walked off due to the 10-run rule with just one out in the bottom of the 6th.

Shelby was held to just two hits by Austin Warrem. Hayden Cole had a double and Trevor Moore (Neoga) had a single. Warrem did give up two walks, one to Hendryx and the other to Sawyer James (Neoga).

Game 2 wasn’t a blow out, but Shelby didn’t fare much better, losing 7-2.

Shelby starter Zach Monroe (Neoga) gave up just one hit, but five walks in 1.3 innings and took the loss.Shelby also booted the ball twice.

Mattoon scored a pair of runs in the 1st. Shelby matched that in the top of the 2nd. Then posted a 5-run rally in the 2nd and that was all they needed.
