SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
The annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Shelby County is looking for “Everyday Heroes” to join in the fight against cancer.
The Relay committee will hold its Kickoff event Monday, March 11, at the Lions Club Building in Forest Park from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
All team and captains and members are encouraged to attend to receive materials and information about this year’s event.
“This is not going to be an open house format this year,” said ACS staff representative Sarah Fuesting. “There will be an informational program. We want you to come and see how we can make this year’s Relay bigger and better.”
This year’s goals include having 24 teams participating and raising $55,000 for the American Cancer Society. Teams may be formed from churches, civic organizations, businesses, students, and groups of friends from throughout the county. They may organize in honor of a cancer survivor or victim.
Relay For Life is a time to celebrate cancer survivors, remember cancer victims, and fight back with information about the disease. Teams raise funds throughout the year in a variety of ways and enjoy an night of activities at the main Relay event.
This year’s event will be held August 2 and 3 from at 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. in Forest Park, Shelbyville.
