The Daily Union Athletes of the Week have been among leaders all season in their respective sports.
Sophomore slugger Madison Boone of the Shelbyville Rams has a half-dozen home runs this season and has been on a roll the last 10 days. In a 12-6 win on Friday Boone went 3-for-4 with a home run. Against St. Teresa, Boone went 3-for-4 with two home runs.
Against Hillsboro, Boone was 2-for-3 with a home run. In the a rare loss for the Lady Rams, Boone was 2-for-4 with a home runs. Against Sullivan, Boone was 3-for-4 with a triple. Against Mattoon, Boone hit the game-winning home run in a 2-1 victory.
Jason Pokalsey, Central A&M sprinter, has been among the leaders in the sprints wherever he has competed this season. It all came to a head this weekend at the 47th Annual Pana Boys Open. In one of the longest running track opens in the state, Pokalsey won three events in the 11-team Class B meet.
Pokalsey swept the sprints. He won the 100 meter dash in 11.71. Pokalsey won the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.87. Pokalsey then won the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.47.
