VFW Scholarships available

The Shelbyville Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4829 is looking for worthy high school seniors through out Shelby County that could use some help with college expenses. This year, the VFW will be offering three academic scholarships in the amount of $1000 each. These scholarships will be used to pay education costs.

Charles Hubbartt and Bob Dilley are the VFW scholarship chairmans. Applications for these scholarships can be picked up at the VFW located at 513 South Cedar Street in Shelbyville, from your high school counselors or downloaded from the VFW Post website at www.post4829.org.

The dead line for receipt of the completed applications is Thursday, April 25.

Qualifications for these scholarships are: applicants must be a son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter or the legally adopted children or grandchildren of the VFW Post 4829 in good standing, living or deceased. They must be planning to attend an accredited college or university as a full time student. Priority will be given to applicants of current year high school graduates.

The candidates will be judged on the basis of grade point averages, work and volunteer experience, school and civic activities and complete a short essay. The applications must be mailed to the VFW Post 4829 ATTN: Bob Dilley, 513 South Cedar Street, Shelbyville, IL 62565 and must be postmarked before midnight, Thursday, April 25, 2013. Hand delivery will not be accepted.
