Little Free Library in Stewardson

Shelbyville Daily Union

---- — Little Free Library #5608 is open for business in Stewardson.

Located at 418 E Main St, #5608 is stewarded by Arlene and Ferd McCormick. Walk up their front sidewalk to see what is available today.

The Little Free Library movement started in Wisconsin in 2010. Since then, it has become an international sensation with little free libraries popping up in urban and rural areas across the country as well as overseas. The Little Free Library website has a Google map with all the little libraries located by coordinates on it, go to www.littlefreelibrary.org to see the McCormick’s #5608.

The idea behind these libraries is “take a book, share it, and give books”. If you see a book you would like to read in #5608, take it. Look inside the cover, there may be a special note from another reader regarding the book. After you’ve read the book, pass it on to a friend or another little library. You can donate books to little libraries and pay it forward. The stewards keep their libraries stocked with books that interest them or their readers’ favorites and their customers bring books to share with others. Sometimes a library gets overfilled. But if you don’t have a book to share, not to worry, please come and take a book anyway.

Summer is a perfect time for reading. Little Free Libraries promote literacy and the love of reading and foster a sense of community and connection.
