Lakers Take On Tuscola

The Shelbyville Laker Swim Team went to Tuscola on Saturday and although the under-manned Lakers were beaten, they claimed 20 1st place finishes and four events sweeps.

“Saturday’s meet was quick and fun,” said Laker coach Nicole Hendry. “It was Sara Tynan (5) and Garrett Endsley’s (7) first meet. The relays had a lot of fun. The pool in Tuscola is 30m long compared to our 25m pool, but our kids didn’t let 5 extra meters slow them down. We still have the smallest team in our conference, but I will say, our strokes are looking good this year and the kids are strong. Our returning swimmers are showing their skills and our newbies are catching on quick.”

The Lakers boasted three swimmers who won three of their events and three more won two of their events.

Eddie Clearwater (Boys 11-12) won the 60 meter freestyle (57.87), the 60 meter breaststroke (1:33.91), and the 60 meter backstroke (1:19.74). Madison Kerr (Girls 9-10) won 120 meter IM (2:48.47), the 60 meter freestyle (1:04.23), and the 60 meter backstroke (1:19.57). Meredith Chambers (Girls 6&U) won the 30 meter freestyle (1:01.83), the 8&U 60 meter freestyle (1:01.36), and the 30 meter backstroke (58.72).

Breanna Vice (Girls 11-12) won the 120 meter IM (2:14.23), was 2nd in the 60 meter freestyle (52.42) by just .18 seconds, and won the 60 meter breaststroke (1:03.93). Isaac Chambers (Boys 8&U) won the 30 meter freestyle (37.46), was 2nd in the 30 meter breaststroke (59.31), and won the 30 meter backstroke (40.50). Macy Owens (Girls 8&U) won the 30 meter freestyle (44.29), was 2nd in the 30 meter breaststroke (1:09.72) and won the 30 meter backstroke (49.04).

In both of Owens’ wins she led a #1, #2, #3 sweep by Shelbyville. In the 8&U 30 meter freestyle, Ella Tynan was 2nd (47.76) and Anna Tynan was 3rd (52.72). In the 8&U 30 meter backstroke, Ella Tynan was 2nd again (1:01.76) and Anna Tynan as 3rd (1:04.19).

Ella Tynan was 1st in the 30 meter breaststroke (58.91) and Anna Tynan was 1st in the 30 meter butterfly (1:13.88). That strong Laker 8&U girls group also won the 120 meter medley relay (5:14.03) and the 120 meter freestyle relay (4:21.21).
