Loop Lake Shelbyville Bike Ride June 14

Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Lake Volunteers Association are hosting the 1st Annual Loop Lake Shelbyville bike ride on Saturday, June 14, 2014. All rides will start from the Lake Shelbyville Visitor and will include options for a 22 mile, 52 mile or a 65 mile ride. Proceeds for the ride will benefit the Lake Volunteers Association (LVA). The LVA provides education, historical interpretation, recreational and environmental improvements at Lake Shelbyville.

Loop Lake Shelbyville bike ride starts at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center. The 65 mile route will loop the entire lake and take riders to the five lake communities of Shelbyville, Findlay, Bethany, Sullivan, and Windsor. Rest stops will be provided every 10-13 miles for riders with water and snacks available. The 52 mile route will also loop the entire lake and will provide rest stops with snacks and water every 10-13 miles. The 22 mile ride will take riders to Findlay, IL and back to the Visitor Center. Riders may start riding after they have registered or checked in at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center between the hours of 7:30am and 9:00am. Riders should plan their route to be back at the Visitor Center no later than 3:00pm. An after ride social at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center will include music and food for purchase.

Requirements: Riders should be ages 15 and older. If under the age of 18, they must be accompanied by a responsible adult. All riders will be required to wear a helmet for the duration of the ride and obey all applicable Illinois State rules of the road. All rides cost $20.00 and if registration and payment are postmarked by May 25, 2014, participants will receive a t-shirt. Visit www.tinyURL.com/lakeshelbyville for a printable registration form.

This event coincides with National Get Outdoors Day, which encouraging Americans to seek out healthy, active outdoor lifestyles, connect with nature, and embrace public lands. Loop Lake Shelbyville provides a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors with family and friends.
