---- — Shelby Memorial Hospital and the SMH Family Health Care Center are proud to announce that Dr. Jagan Mohan R. Bokka has successfully completed Family Medicine Board Certification (FM-BC) and is now accredited by the American Board of Family Medicine, Inc. (ABFM).
The scope of Family Medicine encompasses all ages, genders, each organ system and every disease entity.
It is a medicine specialty which provides continuing, comprehensive health care for the individual and the entire family.
Board certified Family Medicine physicians voluntarily meet additional standards beyond required licensing. Each board certified physician must pass a rigorous, written examination administered by the American Board of Family Medicine.
Although board certification is voluntary, it is recognized throughout the world as a standard of excellence in the practice of Family Medicine.
In addition to the exam, the physician must uphold nationally recognized standards for education, knowledge, experience and skills to provide high quality care. Maintaining this certification is a continuous process with an examination every ten years.
Dr. Bokka grew up in a small town much like Shelbyville where he was inspired by a local doctor. He considers this his key motivation for becoming a physician in a rural community.
Currently he lives with his wife and daughter.
In 2011, Dr. Bokka began his practice at the SMH Family Health Care Center and is accepting new patients. He enjoys providing comprehensive, family-oriented care to help his patients reach their full health potential by promoting wellness and offering counsel in times of illness.
He has a special interest in caring for patients with chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension. In addition to these services, Dr. Bokka provides general primary care including acute illnesses, non-emergency injuries and school physicals.
